About Kyle of Tongue Causeway Layby

Wide laybys at the southern end of the Kyle of Tongue causeway provide a dramatic free parking spot with one of the finest panoramic views on the entire NC500. Ben Hope (the northernmost Munro) and Ben Loyal (the "Queen of Scottish Mountains") rise majestically to the south, while the kyle stretches north toward the sea. The causeway was built in the 1970s to replace the old ferry crossing and is a landmark in itself. An atmospheric overnight spot with exceptional mountain views.

Facilities & Amenities

⚠️ No facilities — be fully self-sufficient
🚐 Motorhome Tip The view at sunrise is extraordinary — Ben Hope catches the first light beautifully. No facilities so be completely self-contained. Tongue village, 3 miles north, has a fuel station and small shop.

Responsible Motorhoming

⚠️ Scottish Outdoor Access Code: The Scottish Outdoor Access Code does NOT apply to motor vehicles. You cannot simply park anywhere. When using informal lay-bys and car parks: do not block roads or passing places, dispose of waste responsibly at designated facilities, support local businesses, and never park close to residential properties or cemeteries. Keep all activity inside your vehicle — no awnings, chairs, or tables outside in public areas.
